I couldn't afford a new record player under any circumstances... I'm glad I have one I can play my scratched up records on now and then... I cant sell them because collectors only buy pristine records.... I have a portable record player that plays 45,78,and 33's
that is from the 50's.   It sounds fine to me.

This is common myth, not all records and
players produce audible "scratching" tick/pop sounds. When using better
gear and good conditon records, this isnt a problem.
The problem with CD/MP3 is it never sounds really good no
matter how good your player or recordings, even
without any "scratching" tick/pop sounds. Its always mediocre.
LP certainly isnt that. --
