Thank you!  I couldn't remember what that was!  I googled Dan Bass,
Dan Armstrong (which I knew was wrong, but for whatever reason it came
to mind);  I knew it was Dan something, and yeah, Danelectro, that's
it (or a knockoff).

I don't play any instruments, but in the early '80's I worked in the
warehouse of Canada's largest music store, and saw a lot of nice (and
not so nice) guitars and knockoffs pass through the doors.  We carried
Danelectros but I couldn't remember the name.

I couldn't remember who made them either; Mosrite came to mind, but that didn't work. I did remember they were made from Masonite, and googled "Masonite guitar" to get the brand.

Funny thing is the original ones from the 60s were about the cheapest, most tawdry, low quality instruments ever made, but those are now worth quite a bit.

The 90s reissues are better made, but worth much less.
