Following on from the galleries I posted yesterday. The City Criterium is ridden around a short (approx. 1km) loop around a scenic section of the Avon River.
There were events happening all day but I only made it for the elite men's race. The riders are led into a rolling start behind a very loud 6.5 litre Mercedes Benz. After the start they ride for 45 minutes, after which they do two more laps to the sprint finish. There were also a couple of sprints partway through the race. <http://www.multisport.net.nz/photos/583-2009-12-06-armstrong-festival-of-cycling-criterium-photos.html> I had a lot of trouble finding good positions due to the crowd. The crowd got worse towards the end of the race as the annual Santa Parade is always held on the same day. I presume it's easier to close the roads for two events at once. I had absolutely no hope of getting close to the finish line. I had to cut a lot of photos due to focus problems. I want eye controlled AF and a bigger viewfinder. I will repeat that I want a feature where the body can remember the AF point separately for portrait and landscape orientations. No idea if the K20D or K-7 have this feature. I'm afraid to look as I'd have to spend money :) Whinging aside, I'm really liking the K10D. The light meter seems to be pretty good. I think I only lost one photo to exposure all weekend, and that was out of focus anyway. As always, comments are appreciated.
