I think you might have written that one off a bit too soon. I think the
blurred rider adds a bit of action to the image and the contrast in the
background can be boosted without much effort in Photoshop.  Not much
you can do about the sky - other than replace it with a new one - if you
are so inclined :-)>  - or add a bit of colour with a masked colour fill
layer.

And Bob's suggestion of a B/W conversion would be worth pursuing.
