Dragged myself out of my house this evening, to an illustrated photo
lecture by Dick Durrance on "Creating Opportunities".
Not a whole lot of specific techniques, but an inspiring lecture based
on how he created new opportunities from some of life's setbacks.
Dick got his first professional gig writing a letter to National
Geographic about a canoe trip he and some college friends were planning
to take down the Danube. They were using National Geographic maps to
plan the trip and asked National Geographic if they'd be interested in
the story.
Got a grant of six Nikon rangefinders and 400 rolls of film. He said
before the start of the trip, he'd taken exactly 19 rolls of film.
Made the July 1965 cover shot.
Pumped up now. Ready to go out find something to shoot tomorrow.
Ran into one of my instructors from school, and had a chance to talk to
him about what I need to do to prepare for getting back in and finishing
my degree. Have to wait one more semester before I can start back so I
can stay in sync with the program.
If it works out, I'll be starting back summer semester 2010.
I've got something else lurking on the horizon, but I'll not say more
about it until I'm sure it's going to happen.
