Thanks Paul and Frank for the compliments.

I'd like to see you try this same setup with flash set at -1 stop
exposure and second curtain shutter synch. That might yield some
very pleasing results.
One of these days I'd like to set up a situation where I can
photograph non-competition blues dancing with a strobe. What I'll need
to do is to set up a special event for it because a strobe at social
dances is considered very rude and uncool.

I like 309 through 319. Just enough motion blur to make them work.
Nice.

Of course, as soon as I pull out my camera to test the new lens,
they turn down the lights. Lighting conditions were tough, I was
shooting wide open (f/1.8) ISO 3200 at 1/8-1/13 second. When they
turned up the lights for the birthday jam, I was able to bump the
shutter speed all of the way up to 1/15, but it was a faster song,
so people were moving faster.
All in all, I'm happy with the optics of this lens. The optics
don't seem to be the weak link in these conditions, and my gut
feel is that I'm getting better contrast out of this lens than I
have in the past.

I'm still not happy with the manual focus. I have determined that
it gets stiff with the focus drive gear in the same position of
every revolution (one end of the slot at 2 O'clock). This happens
with the lens on the camera or not. I need to find another one
locally to try out and compare.
It's interesting that when I tried the savvy shopper app on my
droid with the UPC on the box, several places on the net had
dropped their price from $569 to $519. I may end up returning this
and paying the extra $20 to get one someplace else.
