There are plenty of other differences -- notably price, weight and

important or useful the SDM motor is, so I am asking here.

Is this something that should be ignored in making a choice? An
important factor? Somewhere between?

My main concern with SDM is the reliability and longevity of the motor.

In my minimal exposure to SDM I was surprised at how silent it is. It is as if the image comes into focus by magic. I can see that it would be very useful when you don't want people to notice that you are taking pictures of them. They won't hear anything until the shutter clicks. Which I suppose would be another advantage of the K7 over the K20.

I have heard that an SDM lens can focus faster than a conventional autofocus lens.
