So, let me get this straight, you paid extra, and gave them free
photographs? Someone's not clear on the concept.
They ended up refunding part of the cost. Who knows, maybe the next
time they have something that they don't have good pictures of they'll
hire me.

A couple weeks ago I was shopping for a particular brand of condoms
and found them for what seemed to be a very good price for the 12
pack, as that is what the picture was. I didn't notice the text
saying that all they had was the 3 pack. When the package arrived,
with the 3-packs, I was a bit ticked, checked the website, figured
out my error and wrote them a nastygram. They told me that the
only picture the manufacturer provided was that of the 12-pack.
My response was to take some pictures of the box that they had
sent, and send them copies with a note saying "maybe this will
help". In reply they sent:
"Wow, you're good - I'll pass those along to my web guy - thanks!"
I didn't get any actual pay, but you can see my photos at:

It turns out that it was a surprisingly difficult product shoot
because the box was glossy enough to reflect the white floor of my
light tent, and I don't have any black construction paper lying
around (I ended up using a grey card). Also, some of the shots
showed reflections of my fingers as I pressed the shutter.
Not a very artistic shot, but I learned a bit from it and it's nice
to see it being used in a professional context, even if I didn't
actually get any money from it.
