There are apparently Japanese jokes about the "Sony switch" that trips
when the warranty expires.
I wouldn't treat it as a reason to *buy* a Sony product, but you must
admit reliably dying just after (rather than just before, or in) the
warranty period is _very good design_ from a skills-and-ability
perspective as well as Sony's corporate perspective.
Yeah, what Click 'n Clack call the perfect auto repair.
From my perspective upwards of $1000 dollars for a VCR that's only
going to last a year and a day isn't much inducement to buy another VCR
of the same brand though.
