In Canada, each province has it's own laws regarding alcoholic
beverages. Here in Ontario, I believe that it's legal to drink on
privately owned property, but in public it's only allowed at a
licensed premises such as a bar or licensed restaurant. Drinking on
patios is allowed only if the restaurant or bar has a permit.

It's illegal to drink in parks, beaches or any other public area,
however enforcement is sketchy. Here in Toronto people do drink in
parks and it's mostly tolerated that I can see, as long as the
drinkers aren't being too "obvious" and don't leave their containers
in the open to be seen by children who could be scarred for life if
they see an open can of beer sitting on the ground.

cheers,
frank
