I think it says in the manual that it does, however after posting the email I carefully inspected the film, no visible signs of damage. So I wound it back into the canister and put it through the camera again, just to see what would happen the second time. Absolutely no problems it rewound sweet as a nut. All I can surmise is that I has somehow loaded the film badly or it had got caught up in the camera on rewind, or something. I should have realized this was the case and opened it in a dark room, but didn't think until it was too late. I did have exactly the same problem with an SF about 6 months ago, and never again since (after about 20 rolls), so maybe it's just my loading technique trips me up occasionally, I dunno. Just a shame it had to happen with my first roll of film through my new camera!

I taught a black and white workshop last year, and one of the people had some sort of Canon camera that refused absolutely to recognize her roll of AgfaPan, but had no problems with a roll of T-400CN that I had in my bag. This camera used an IR device for detecting the film advance length. I surmised at the time that the black and white film was IR transparent, and so the camera couldn't see the sprocket holes.
