Yep, I only brought the wide-zoom with me. I should have brought a long
lens as well--but I'll use the excuse of foggy cold head :-). Shooting
these types of events is like cutting cattle, and you need a longer lens to
do that sort of thing. :-) cheers, Christine

I can feel your pain. I have shot a few venues kind of like that.
They are difficult. I have had some good luck using a bit longer
lens - like your 50-135. That seems to let you grab a bit more
candid shot since you are not quite so in their face. The flash
smooths out a bit more and the backgrounds tend to blur out better.
It makes them not quite so distracting.
