You might also theck out  current inexpensive wide-tele zoom, the Sigma 28-135
f3.8-5.6 Very nice image quality but for some pincushion distortion at the long
end. Doesn't go as wide as the Tamron of course but it *does* go to 1:2 macro
and it's $189.00 at B&H these days.
