I've got to say, while leather is not a "necessity", it really is the best material available for certain things, such as shoes. As good as synthetics can be, nothing beats its combination of flexibility, durability, breatheability and comfort. I still have leather shoes that I bought before I went vegan. While some have a "leather discarding party" when they go vegan, I couldn't afford to replace my leather at once, so I've decided to replace when natural attrition occurs (a view condoned by some vegans). I've gotta tell you, it will be a sad day when I get rid of the last of my four very old pairs of Converse One Stars. Love those canvas Chucks, but One Stars are still the most comfortable sneakers I've every worn! I'll eventually replace my leather with products made from materials not derived from animals, but I certainly acknowledge the wonders of leather. http://knarfdummyblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/one-stars.html cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
