You're right, Cory, it is hard to believe anyone could be so rude.

I've run into a very few sports stars, and fortunately, all were very nice, and
actually engaged in conversations.

My most memorable was Maurice "Rocket" Richard, hockey star for the Montreal
Canadiens in the 40's and 50's. He became a cultural icon to French Canadians,
and has attained near-mythic status. I bumped into him in an airport about 20
years ago - he actually sat down next to me (I was there first). I was almost
afraid to say anything to him, because he had a reputation for being a hot-head,
at least as a player.

Turned out he was very nice, and we talked for about 15 minutes until they
called for his plane. He stood up, held out his hand to shake mine, told me it
was nice talking to me, and left.

On the other hand, I didn't have a camera. Not to make excuses for M. Andretti,
who I don't like either on or off the track, but maybe when you have cameras
pushed in your face all day, you don't have much patience for such things.
OTOH, "no thanks, I don't want my picture taken right now" was all that was
required, wasn't it?

You're right, Mike, he is a prick.

regards,
frank
