Yes, I should have mentioned.  The final transition is maybe 100 metres from 
the finish line.  Most of them still had their bike shoes on as well.  I 
wouldn't run on anything harder than sand with those things on.

Thanks, Frank.  Some of them were able to put on a good sprint and others were 
only able to manage a hobble.  The more exhausted / sore someone was, the 
bigger the cheer from the crowd.  The atmosphere was really good and it was 
visibly lifting the competitors' spirits.

BTW I just changed the photo gallery template so the images are shown a lot 
larger.  If you go back for another look you may need to clear your cache or 
the pics will look crappy (more so than usual;).
