I don't think there is anything wrong with longing for film. It really
doesn't matter to me if the longing is out of nostalgia or because one
feels a certain technical difference that it produces.

A builder may love the buildings he produces, but that doesn't mean he
doesn't also have feelings for the tools he uses (or used in the
past). An air-driven nail gun may have a certain practicality to his
everyday work (and profits) but that doesn't mean that the skill of
using an old-fashioned hammer doesn't still have usefulness or evoke
some pleasure.

I also miss film and darkroom work and have recently decided that
today's low (and sometimes GIVEAWAY) prices represent something of an
opportunity to get back into film/darkroom without spending very much.
If you like manual focus lenses, you've probably accumulated some film
bodies. (In fact, if you love autofocus lenses you may have
accumulated some film bodies... I got a nice Z-1p, for example).
People are just about giving away darkroom equipment these days. I'm
in the process of turning a downstairs bathroom into a B&W darkroom
and looking forward to using my Pentax-F 17-28mm fisheye zoom as it
was intended to be used (not as a 25-42mm equiv. on a crop camera). I
also hope to have some fun with my old Mamiya TLRs, and do some
pinhole stuff with paper negatives. Keeping the darkroom B&W will
allow me to keep costs down and not have to be as fussy with
temperature control, etc.

Nobody says you can't play on both sides of the street.
