Bob, I totally get your point, but perhaps if you were attending all of the homes and studying the cases that I've been studying for the past two years, you may think otherwise.
18 months ago, a pair of 8 month old twins were found dead in their cots by police in a suburb not far from me. They were surrounded by maggots, and faeces and vomit and had been dead for about a week. They had been slowly, progressively neglected and starved to death over many months. They believe that one twin died, leaving the other to "live" in the cot with her sister's body for 2-3 days before she finally died too. The "family" had two other children, and hadn't wanted the twins when they fell pregnant. Were too broke and uneducated to adopt them out or to seek a termination (which I am adamantly against, but that's a whole other soapbox), so when they were born, they brought them home, stuck them in their cots and basically fed them enough to keep them alive for 6 months, then starved them to death for the remaining 2 months of their short, neglected, pain filled lives. The family, including the older siblings who were I think about 10 and 12, closed the door of their bedroom and simply went about their daily lives, never giving the babies a second thought. The reason that their bodies was found was because the 10 year old sister smelt a foul odour coming from their room and went in to clean it thinking that their dog had pooed in there. Even after her discovery, it was allegedly a day or so before she mentioned it to her teacher at school, who alerted authorities. I can also tell you of another story involving the schizophrenic ex-girlfriend of a second cousin of mine (the mother of his child) who locked her 2 year old outside her apartment building naked for a day or so. A pair of little old ladies found his body at the base of the stairs after he had fallen down them. The autopsy revealed about 200 scars from cigarette burns all over his body and 23 old bone breakages that had never been treated. When he was found his mouth and throat were full of vomit containing whole grapes that had her schizophrenia medication (tablets) shoved into them. She had forced the grapes down his throat whole, trying to kill him, and when that didn't work, she locked him outside hoping that he would simply go away. She got her wish. Now, I am sorry, but I think that people like this have no right to breed. End of story. The first family were educated enough to raise two children to be 10 and 12 years old, but couldn't be bothered with the extras, so just cast them aside to die. The second case - well, she had refused to take her schizophrenia medication and apparently voices told her that her 2 year old son was trying to kill her. A year before, my second-cousin had taken his own life and she was left with soul, unsupervised custody of this little guy, despite the fact that she herself had been hospitalised for 3 of the preceeding 4 years due to her mental illness. The result was tragic. I've written many papers on the topic of mental illness and filicide (me being a depression sufferer myself, I've always had a keen interest), as well as some on impression management and child neglect/abuse (ie. keeping up appearances despite the underlying issues at home). You can call me a Nazi if you like, however, why is it that people are required to have a licence to own certain pets, and yet anyone can pull down their pants and become a "parent" (and I use the term loosely), in half a second. Like I said in my previous post - forced sterilisation may defy pretty much every human right known to man, but think about how many human rights the children in the above scenarios were denied. Do you think that they were ever given any chance of living wholesome, happy lives or even the slightest chance of survival? That's a great idea. You could call it the Gesetz zur Verhütung erbkranken Nachwuchses. If that doesn't work out you could grow a toothbrush-shaped moustache somewhere. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4944 (20100314) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
