There are actually two versions of the M28/2.8. I suspect you're referring to the "old" version. The "new" version is mechanically and optically identical to the A28/2.8. Only difference is the focus ring and the presence/absence of contacts on the lens mount. There was also a "Takumar Bayonet 28/2.8" which is the same as the later M/A referenced above but without contacts or SMC coating on the glass. I have one, and it's a decent lens, but flare-prone.
