Does anyone remember the beautiful shots that Godfrey got out of his
Treo 650 phone?  There is something to the fact that the person
behind the "viewfinder" (since phones don't have 'em) has something
to do with the quality of the pictures that come out of the device.
I'd say more so than the equipment.

Now - does he use better equipment than that most of the time?  Yes.
And does it help the images?  Yes, I'd say so as well.

And that's been my point all along. The photographer is more important than the equipment. Equipment is important, but not as important as the photographer. Equipment is only as good as the photographer who uses it.

A poor photographer is still a poor photographer no matter how much he spends on gear. Expensive equipment merely gives the poor photographer the means to create high resolution lousy images.
