Mispelled the authors name - it should be Genovese.

For those interested, there's a great book out by a Peter Genouese called 'Jersey Diners'. It includes many pictures of diners and answers to some of life's questions such as where and how did these diners start; who invented eggs served in a skillet and more.

I came across it a few years back while wandering the woods in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in a little berg called Grand Marais. It had its own Jersey Diner that had the owner had purchased and moved to Michigan from New Jersey. There are several Jersey Diners in Michigan BTW.

I grew up in New Jersey and didn't realize that these little eateries were unique to the state.

I've been enjoying your images of the diners Dan.

Thanks, Frank and David. The Royal is nothing if not "tacky."

Actually, this is part of the Branchburg Diner, the only part still
active. The Royal Diner was a separate establishment, farther west on
the same highway, but it closed years ago. They Royal had a liquor
license, which was somehow moved to this location. It now operates
mostly as a bar and liquor store, but also has some "snacks."

Comments, criticisms and suggestions welcome.
