What I recommend you do:

Set it up with a focus target. Run a test and find out how far it is off
in which direction.

Remove the shim (make sure it isn't doubled up), measure it again, and
see how far off it is in which direction.

Measure the thickness of the shim. It should be simple math to calculate
what shim you will need to get the screen adjusted just right.
