To keep the Lightroom catalog and file repository in synch on two systems simply means synchronizing one with the other by whatever means you want. While that's perfectly reasonable to do, it wasn't Cory's question far as I could tell. That's why I described a methodology that works well for when you want to use the laptop to acquire new work and then coalesce that work into your desktop system's file repository and Lightroom catalog.
Tim's methodology is a means to keep the Lightroom catalog and file repository synchronized and the same between multiple computers. The only thing particularly different about it is that he uses rsync rather than one or another of dozens of file synchronizing utility software applications available (that are both easier and more robust for non-command-line users to work with). Getting away from the command line: - For Mac OS X, there's ChronoSync (amongst others) which does this very easily, flexibly and without any need to write scripts. It offers a lot more options as well. - For Windows ... go to http://www.versiontracker.com and search for "File synchronize". You'll find a couple dozen utilities that will do the job easily. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
