I can certainly see where Jack is coming from.  Unless you are going
to get seriously into wildlife, a 300-400 is about as long as you'll
want to deal with.  About the only other thing I could think of for
Jack might be a fast enough 300 to allow a 1.4 converter.  That is
what I have and use - 100-300/4, but then, I got it for shooting
sports mostly.

I don't think I would want to deal with the real big glass just yet.
