I set up the Omega D2 cold light enlarger today. It's a nice piece.
After assembly, I checked the alignment of the lens board with the
baseboard, using a bubble level. It's dead nuts, right on. I bought a
Schneider Componon-S on ebay, and it arrived, so I mounted it and
printed a few frames on 11 x14. I don't have a filter holder yet, so I
was reduced to holding a filter under the lens. The sharpness appears
good to the eye when focusing and in the prints. I found it very easy to
focus at f8. The grain from a roll of Tri-X was extremely well defined.
However, I have some misgivings about the lens. First, the click stops
are almost indistinguishable. I know this lens has an off/on switch for
click stops, but they're barely there when it's turned on. Second, the
aperture ring can be wiggled a bit. Does anyone know if this is normal
for this lens? I'm still going to test it against the Nikkor, but I'm
waiting for a replacement on the Nikkor. After I told the seller that
the last example was unaccetable, he immediately promised to send me
another. Along with a note that I could return one for a swap or both
for a complete refund. Good seller.
