Hi Bob, Mike, et al,:

I have a bit of experience using "improper" lenses for the format; I
often use a 50mm for 6x6cm and 40mm for 35mm film sizes. It allows me to
make enlargements beyond the enlarger's capacity. (I use the Beseler 67xl).

And honestly, bearing in mind my very amateur status, I am quite
satisfied with the results, and so are those who view (and very rarely
purchase) my black and white fine art prints.

The 50mm lens allows me to make 16x20 prints (with room to spare and
crop) and the same for the 40mm on 35mm format.
The obvious drawback that I can observe is the light fall off toward the
corners of the frame, which I easily compensate for by buring in the
corners a bit. I suppose the depth of field becomes shorter, but, all in
all, as I said, I'm quite satisfied with the results I get from
cheating.....
