Liberated zone basically means that the neonazis feel at liberty to do as they please with the foreigners. No maps of NoGo areas were ever issued. The two states affected the most are Sachsen-Anhalt and Brandenburg. Generally, the weaker an area is structurally and in terms of employment, the more likely you are to encounter such groups. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is very nice, especially because of its many many lakes with great camping and boating.
