It's like lyngitus. A little rest and no use and it can speak again. Perhaps it might also be that after use, batteries will recover a bit with rest.

Woke up this morning to a dry camera, no more rain, and the beep works again.
Odd.  But minor!  Guess I'll ignore it until/unless things get worse in the 
future.
