Hi, I have one and I have found that the coating on the front element is quite soft, I found this out the hard way carrying it around one day without (the easily loseable) lens cap and letting it occasionally bump into the exterior of my camera bag. Marked up the front element (yes I tried carbon black), but I haven't noticed any degradation in flare control. Just the same, I am now very careful WRT the front element. It certainly won't stand what Pentax's SMC coating will. Mine also had the subpar machine job on the mount, but it fit and worked smooth on my Pentaxes, so that was the important thing.
Thanks, William in Utah.
