I've noticed this and it really baffles me. What difference does it make as long as you don't bid more than you're willing to pay? I find it really annoying when people selling items proclaim "NO RESERVE!" or "NR". It doesn't make me any more or less likely to bid. I just decide on my price and make my bid and if it doesn't make the reserve it's no greater loss than if I were to be out-bid in a non-reserve auction.
