I have no problem with what you advocate. The seller is protecting his interest and if he bids too high and wants too much you can dump it on him. As you say, he still has to pay the commission. Ebay is nothing compared to purebred cattle sales. I once say a quarter/interest in a bull sell for $161,000 and there was only one bidder after $90,000. That one bidder did not pay any more than he was willing to pay, however.
