Hi John,
I've got a handle on all that. My concern is having the replies appear
correctly within the thread format -- so that they appear as replies to
the individual messages rather than replies to the original message.
Mostly, it's just a matter of proper positioning of the messages within
the thread that I'm trying to figure out, and also avoiding sending
duplicative messages to both the thread, and directly to the
corresponding member's inbox. I think I have it figured out now, though.
Thanks for the reply.
Best,
Walt

Do you mean a reply back to the list like this one?
I also subscribe through the digests.
Click on the "[email protected]" link in one of the digest headers and it
should open a composition window addressed to the list.
Copy and paste the Subject: line
Copy and paste the From: line
Copy and paste as a quotation whatever text you want to respond to

Hi all,
I get my PDML emails in digest form -- usually about a dozen or so in
one bulk email. Up until now, I've been using my web-based gmail
interface to read and reply. Problem with that is that it doesn't
allow me to reply directly to another list member when appropriate.
So, when I reply to a message on a thread, it always looked in the
thread tree like a reply to the originator of the thread rather than
the person I was actually replying to.
Now, I've finally downloaded Thunderbird and set it up as my gmail
IMAP client. Now, I can reply directly to the individual in the
thread, which is nice. Only problem with that is that when go about
replying to the individual, it appears to only bring up that person's
email in the address field, but not the pdml email address. So, as
far as I can tell, I'd only be replying to the person and not the
list. Since I'm not big on filling up everyone's inbox with any more
mail than absolutely necessary, I'd like to avoid that if at all
possible and still be able to reply to the individual in the thread
tree.
In short, how do I go about replying within a thread, directly to an
individual without sending mail directly to their inbox, or having my
message appear to be a reply to the originating list member? I hope
I'm making sense here. Is anybody pickin' up what I'm puttin' down?
Thanks,
Walt
