For my problem with the *60-250 I was looking at finding a wide rubber
band that when on the lens would cover both the barrel closest to the
camera and some of the zoom ring. It would be easy to roll back when
shooting (or peel back if you like) then replace when walking on.

It obviously wouldn't "fix" the problem, but might at least
ameliorate it.
