Yes I'm as amazed as you are.  It's a real testament to the quality of the 
infrastructure here.  The scariest moment of the quake was when the power went 
out.  I think the reports said that electricity was cut to about 75% of the 
city.  The street across the river from us was still on.

The sewer system is still offline and I know that's fairly antiquated so it'll 
be interesting to see how long it takes to get that sorted out.  A small 
section of the road is a bit weird outside our house, it makes a scrunchy sound 
when you walk on it and it feels quite soft so I suspect the ground underneath 
is a bit soft.  I don't know if there was subsidence, liquefaction or maybe 
it's related to the leaking water pipe just up the street.

Our building codes have been very good for quite a long time for this very 
reason.  It looks like the major damage is limited only to older buildings that 
predate the standards.  I think most of the buildings in Rome would predate 
European settlement in this country!
