Yes, I've stayed there on all 3 of my visits to Paris. The first time was on the recommendation of a colleague, for an astronomy conference at l'Observatoire de Paris, which is within walking distance. I've liked the hotel just fine, and haven't had a reason to look elsewhere. The rates have always been reasonable. Breakfast is often included in your rate (croissants, yogurt, fruit, etc.). The rooms are small, but clean, and have private, modern bathrooms. The staff has been unfailingly polite, and most speak excellent English. The location is nice, with all the shops on the rue Daguerre, and a short walk to Gare Montparnasse and Denfert-Rochereau (RER from CDG, Orlybus to Orly). The one F-up there was when a female colleague with the same last name as me also booked a room there, for the same conference. Nevermind that I was coming from the US, and she was coming from Germany, and we booked separately. They assigned us to the same room. She checked in after I did, and they gave her my room key (I was out). She was quite startled to find all my stuff in the room. The hotel was otherwise full, so I think they helped her find accommodations at another hotel. Here's a picture of our room. The photograph encompasses most of the room. http://www.coneslayer.org/gal/honeymoon/034-C2-16.html And, as you say, you can't beat the name. Although when I told a friend where I was staying, he first thought it was the Hotel of War, then realized it must be the Hotel of the Train Station. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
