Thanks everyone for your comments, I'm going to have to find out more about the Metz 58AF2. The website mentions a permanent modelling light which could be useful - I know about the strobe effect modelling light, but the word permanent suggests something else.
I'll forget about the Sigma flashes. I knew they had problems a while ago, but didn't know it was still plaguing them.
