Ok, Found the specs at DPReview. I take it SAFOX IX+ is a crippled whore
that can run a little faster?
Note to Pentax: Put a new AF into your cameras and stop hobbling them
with an 11 point system.
I think I'll wait to hear from someone who has actually TRIED the K5
autofocus before passing judgement. I always pick my own focus points, and
11 are adequate. All I want is better lock on. The K7 is a lot better than
the K20. I suspect this camera will be another significant improvement.
But like I said, I'm not going to pass judgement, based on the DP whiners.
Obviously we don't have the same wants in a camera, 11 points in the current
emulation is at best adequate sometimes, and at worst is inadequate much of
the time. I always pick my AF point as well, and sometimes, there is even a
focus point where I want it to be.
The major exception to this is studio portraiture (which you don't do a lot
of), where the end point isn't ever in the right spot and the next tier in
is too close to the center to be of any use.
I wouldn't mind the 11 point AF if they'd move the points around a bit to
make them useful, but I suspect that losing the left hand point and moving
it to the right side and moving both end sensors off center halfway between
the location of the mid point sensors would cause the people who think the
present system is adequate to whine like a 747 coming in for a landing.
