My Spider 2 calibrated iMac 24 is a perfect match for my Epson R2880 and R 2400 output with the brightness turned all the way down. Perhaps I just got lucky, but it's a completely adequate monitor for both printing and publishing. I have an Apple Cinema Display 23 sitting alongside, an dit doesn't show as good a range of highlight and shadow detail as the iMac 24. However, I have heard all the complaints, and the brightness does have to be turned all the way down for photographic rendering.

The primary problem is that one cannot adjust luminance, and iMacs are =bright= even when turned down as much as the OS allows.

the iMac 24" screen was horrid this way. the iMac 27" has a much much
better display and can be adjusted much more easily for correct
luminance.
