Last Tuesday I dropped-off a 540FGZ flash that smokes, and a DA*
50-135 that has the mythical-never-happens SDM failure disease for
warranty repair. They promised an estimate on the 540FGZ, which is out
of warranty sadly. I was told to expect a couple of weeks.
What should I expect really?

The estimate arrived by snail mail this morning.
Apparently, replacing the magic smoke is free! But sadly they want $168
for a new circuit board, labour and taxes.
A brand new Metz Mecablitz 48 would be $300 and a new 540FGZ is $600 in
Canada.
I told 'em to go ahead and repair. Sigh.
