Dear Richard,

It was very interesting to read about you being so passionate about
tango in general, and Piazzolla music in particular.

As for the Austin Piazzolla Quintet (not to be confused with another APQ
- Astor Piazzolla Quintet), you can see a bunch of their videos on YouTube,
and listen to some clips on their webpage: http://www.apqtango.com/
They released their CD just ~2 months ago - it's available
from their site and CDbaby.com
(I am not associated with them, - it is not an advertisement! :-) )

At the CD-Release Party (milonga), I took some photos:
http://42graphy.org/tango/apq-2010/
(Photos of musicians are at the beginning of p.1, and at the end -
p.3-4)
I purposely included in that gallery a few mini-series (2-4)
of similar photos in an attempt of showing dynamics of the action.
(Although, I just noticed that several photos that I didn't intend
to include are there, - I must've switched off the filter
when I was generating the gallery, - I should redo it
next time I get to it.)

I also tried to shoot a short video, but
1) I am not a videographer, and seldom do any videos;
2) It was not thought about ahead of time;
3) The high-speed lens I had was FA-50/1.4, and it was too long
for this project (the room is packed with dancers, and the stage is
rather small).
Hence, - "excuse the dust":

(It was shot with K-7, - the highlights are burnt, probably
due to very small dynamic range at high ISO (1600?) and hot-spot lights
in the room).

Cheers,

Igor

Dear Igor,

Besides being a Pentax guy as a photography hobbyist, I am also a
musician. I have been a professional musician and educator most of my
life. I play most of the woodwinds, the clarinet, flute, saxophone and
bassoon.

My musical interests are in both the classical side of things and in
jazz. For a very long time I've been a fan of the music of Astor
Piazzolla. Though I consider the tango to be maybe the world's
sexiest dance, I am, however, NOT a dancer.

If I ever get to Austin, I'd love to go hear this Austin Piazzolla
Quintet. What a wonderful way to spend an evening and have a beer or
two.

I'm sure you're having a blast with this musical association and the
people involved.

Yours truly,
Richard Bush

Hi All,

I thought, I'd share this with you.

I've been invited to present a workshop-slideshow "Dancers and
Photographs".
This workshop is a result of the last 4+ years of me taking photographs
at various dance events (various flavors of swing dances, blues and
argentine tango), my own research, experimentation (and dance classes),
as well as discussions with professional dance instructors and
dance competition judges.

Here is the flyer with a short and long descriptions:

At this point, I have two presenations scheduled in Austin:
1. Next weekend, before a milonga (tango party) with live performance
by a very nice tango band - Austin Piazzolla Quintet
http://www.esquinatangoaustin.com/index.php/social-events/piazzolla-quintet

2. Next month, at a large Lindy-Hop festival - Austin Lindy Exchange
http://www.austinlindyexchange.org/excursions.php
(followed by the dance & live music by nice Austin Jazz
musicians Ryan Gould and His Big Big Band)

Cheers,
