I have these metal caps that let you just stack a number of filters of
the same size and screw one externally padded metal cap onto each end
of the stack - very compact and sturdy solution. I picked them up on
eBay for like € 3-5 per pair. Unfortunately they never show up for
diameters larger than 58 mm and I haven't yet found a source to buy
them new so I help myself with step rings.
