Yes, there are crooked auto repair places out there, but it's a
really rough industry to be in.
My best friend from my childhood is living in the same town as I do
and for as long as I've been a professional programmer, he's been a
professional car mechanic. We call it "golden hands" in Russian. He
has a pair of these. I surely wouldn't want to start repeating the
(mostly horror) stories he told me about all kinds of things that
happened throughout his career.

The worst thing is trying to explain to a customer that their car fell
of the lift...
(Never did it, Watched a car fall of a lift, heard half of the
conversation).
