I should be good for batteries. I have 4 D-LI50s & 1 NP400. I know my
chargers will work with the voltages I'll encounter on the trip, and I
already have the necessary UK plug adapters for Hong Kong.
I'm thinking of "sharing" from the point of "What do I contribute to the
common pool?"
Everyone else will be using Canon or Nikon. I was wondering if any of
the canikon cameras used batteries that can be charged with my 12VDC
charger.
It's 10 days, 10 students & 1 instructor. Enter through Hong Kong, north
by rail to Beijing where we catch our flight home after visiting The
Great Wall. We'll have two tripods, one of them my old Gitzo with
Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head. I'll have spare mounting plates.
I'm planning to carry the K20D with the K10D for backup. Sigma 30f1.4,
Sigma 10-20f4-5.6, Tokina ATX-Pro 28-70f2.8 & Sigma 1.4x tele-converter
for lenses. I considered taking my Tokina ATX=Pro 80-200f2.8, but I
don't forsee the need for a telephoto on this trip.
AF-540FGZ with Vivitar 285HV backup for flash. Flash Adapter FG, Hotshoe
Adapter FG, the coil cord & the long cord. CyberSync with a hotshoe
adapter that has 1/4-20 mounting thread & foot to fit a cold shoe.
I'm also taking my K1000 with SMCP-A 35f2 & my last roll of Kodachrome
25 [plus a few more rolls of E6 film]. We're going to the Great Wall & I
plan to shoot that last roll of Kodachrome there.
Make that last two rolls ... I just found a Kodachrome 64 hiding in the
back of the fridge. We'll be "back in the USSR" by 22 Dec, so I should
have time to get them off to Duane's before the deadline.
Another question: Anyone know how picky TSA is over bulk-load 35mm film
cartridges? I've got a bunch of Velvia 50, but none of it is in
pre-loaded cartridges. If they're going to be an ass about it I'll leave
the Velvia at home & take Provia 100F.
About the only other thing I haven't figured out yet is whether to carry
my laptop & an external drive, get a netbook & external drive or just
carry an external drive and borrow computer time from classmates for
downloading my cards.
I don't know if there will be any other windoze computers along on the
trip. I could format my external drive for Mac HFS or HFS+ and install
MacDrive on my windoze box when I get home.
I have 4 8GB SDHC & 10 4GB SDHC, all speed class 4.
All the camera gear fits into a LowePro Mini-Trekker. I have a Manfrotto
MBAG80P for the tripod which I can also stuff with some spare clothing &
a small shoulder bag that should be enough for the rest of my clothing.
I don't think I will have to check anything except possibly the tripod
bag and I'll see if I can gate-check that.
All my clothing is designed for hand-washing during travel. I'm only
carrying my prescription medicines, a spare pair of glasses, a bar of
Ivory soap, toothbrush and unopened travel size toothpaste & mouthwash.
I'll shave before I leave home & if I can't make it 10 days without
shaving again, I'll buy a disposable BIC razor once I get there.
I have my passport and visa.
This is the first time I will fly commercial since 9/11. All the other
times the military took care of things and told me what to bring, where
to bring it and when to be there.
The flight itself should be interesting. Well, maybe not the flight, but
looking at the route, I think it goes directly north over Hudson Bay,
the North Pole & south over Siberia into China.
What have I forgotten or overlooked?

I used NP400s interchangeably with the Pentax K10D battery too. No
problems, although the Pentax battery has a little more capacity. The
Canon batteries I've seen, while similar in form factor, are not
compatible with the NP400 terminal layout. BTW, no name D-LI50
batteries for Pentax K10D, K20D are available from BestBatt.com for
$...@. You can get a compact, one-battery travel charger for them from
the same source for $18.

K10 & K20 both use the D-LI-50 battery, which appears to be
essentially a re-badged Konica-Minolta NP400 (if using the NP400
in my K10 hasn't killed it by now, it never will ...).
I'm going on a school trip to China and we're trying to figure
out what we can share. Since I'm the only Pentax shooter in the
group, the answer is not much ...
But, I was wondering about batteries. I have dual
120-240VAC/12VDC charger for NP400s that I keep in my car.
My question is do any of the Canikon cameras also use a re-badged
NP-400?
