Subject: It's a great lens, but not what I bought it for

When I bought my sigma 20/1.8, the intention was to use it for indoor, low light, dance photography. For various reasons, mostly involving manual focus, it hasn't proven to be as good for that as I had hoped. On the other hand, I'm finding it very handy as a wide angle macro lens. For example, a lot of the time that I'm shooting mushrooms, to get the angle I want, I need to be very close to the subject because roots of the stump, or the ground, is in the way if I'm trying to use a longer lens.

Does anybody else have lenses that they bought for one use, that they later found are much better for something else entirely?

Yep. I bought my 600 FA for wildlife photography and found it was much better for other people to carry.
