This thread has intrigued me, not that I should be spending money on toys. Readeing about it though, it doesn't seem quite like the tripod for long nighttime exposures but it might be good for a hike in the woods and macros of stuff on the ground... When I was a kid we had a tripod with a rotating center column, which I really liked.
