From my last investigation into the subject it's the same here. I
think that the DMCA was instigated more to criminalize DRM
circumvention etc, it's all about protecting the "rights" of the big
guns and it effectively dilutes the rights of anyone who is not
proactive in following up all the protocols now in place to register
copyright.

In the US, copyright registration just gives you additional leverage.

Notice of Infringement is a polite tap on the shoulder to ask them to stop infringing your copyright and compensate you for their previous misuse.

That may be enough to achieve your aims. Or it may not.

Your Certificate of Registration is a 2x4 to whop 'em up side the head with if they give you any lip when you politely tap them on the shoulder.

Just in case they want to be stubborn and not pay you any attention.

Because, as noted philosopher C. Colson once remarked, "When you got 'em by the balls, their hearts & minds will follow.
