K10D and later compress the .PEFs and don't compress .DNGs. So it makes sense to capture in .PEF and convert to .DNG for processing.
K10D and K20D don't, but later cameras certainly do. K7 and K5 both do compressed DNGs, not sure about Kx or Kr.
