sorry about the technical issues, i've tried to make it the simplest
possible, but it's incredible how hard it is to get a straight, no
fades photos on white slideshow.
and the white background stays, it's somehow the most non-intruding,
i.e. some photos really do stand out on black, but that is the point,
it affects photos more.

I just have a serious problem with glare - at one point I was able to zoom in and minimize the border, which helped and then I could linger... but on my computer with my firefox browser, the photos take up one third of the screen.. above and below it is white... (Then I couldnt' get it to zoom again..) That's why my entire web page has a black background..... though if I were looking at a printed page - matte white, it would be fine. Firefox also doesnt seem to like fliker much and whenever I try just to link to Frank's site it shuts down my email and apologizes for encountering an error. In NEtscape, flikker is impossible , too... which is why I don't comment
much on photos displayed there... :-)

Stan, you helped me realize something with your post - the first slide
is my impression from austria/romania condensed, but by honestly
exploring the experience and photos i've made to an edit that is a lot
more nuanced. my impression is still colored by the hello effect, but
it's nice that the slideshow reads as less accusing of romania than
that :) (still a lot of stuff is terribly wrong there, and i've rarely
felt that about a place, being from serbia and all :D)

wait, you click on the slide and nothing happens?
other methods of navigation? (keyboard arrows, arrows on the far right
of the screen) also fail to work or they work, at least?

I had problems, too... when I first looked...
Interestingly, that was before I downloaded the latest fix to java...

Now it is more or less fine here... with the photos reading left to right
and easily going to next pair... but one can't
isolate a photo and zoom in on it....

I like a whole bunch of these... and certainly the whole essay is
intersting... but the slideshow is not a comfortable view.
(black background would help)
