I've tried twice to upgrade. Once to IE 8 - NG and once to IE 7 - also NG.

It's probably about time you upgraded. I'm surprised anything works for
you in IE 6 these days as a lot of big players are dropping support for
it.
At work, we call IE6 the Kryptonite browser as it's the one browser we
always have problems with in testing.
