Thanks, P.J. I've gotten an education in light meters since discovering that my beautiful little Weston II doesn't work. That site was part of it. It would be messy to try what it suggests with my meter because the screws that would have to be removed to open up the back are not exposed on mine. The bottom line, though, is this quote about the Weston II from a website devoted wholly to light meters that I think is going to prove to be a valuable resource in learning about exposure. http://www.jollinger.com/photo/meters/index.html "The Master II seems like the iconic [Weston] to me; I see it so often for sale, usually at inflated prices because most of them are dead now and the cells can't be replaced. It was also still from the era when it was calibrated for Weston numbers, not ASA, so the modern user needs to make allowances." So, even if I could get mine working, the out-of-date film speed scale would make actually using it less than convenient. Weston has long been out of business, and the European company that was the last manufacturer/servicer did the same earlier this year. Too bad. Weston started it and was the standard for a long time. Apparently Ansel Adams, among others, was a user. And the meters are just plain beautiful. I've decided to go with a Sekonic L398, which is similar to the Weston, but is still being manufactured. There are used L398M's for sale on eBay, but given the fundamentality of exposure, and how much a meter like this could teach me, I may just bite the bullet and go for a new L398A. Film speed/ISO scale would be up to date, I wouldn't have to go scrounging around for a manual, accessories, etc., etc. Regards, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eric Weir Decatur, GA USA [email protected] -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
